Are You The Droid I’m Looking For?
The end of my phone contract is approaching in mid July (GAH, too many references to end of Xanga), and I would like to be in the search of a new phone. My current phone, the Droid 2 Global, served me okay. It had its hiccups: randomly disengaging the SD card, random dropped reception, lag, keyboard randomly typing its own letters, and randomly restarting on its own.
I want to stay on my current plan mainly because I wish to keep my unlimited data (which is no longer offered). Because of that, it would mean that I cannot buy a new phone at a subsidized reduced price and therefore have to buy the phone outright at full price; that would range from $500 to $700.I’ve ruled out getting a Windows phone since they are currently running behind in app development and maintaining software updates, as well as an iPhone because, well, everyone has an iPhone (plus, I feel that it’s too restricting). Originally, I wanted to get a phone with a slide-out keyboard. I hate typing on touch screens because I have clumsy fat fingers; I also type way too quickly and therefore, often misspell words on touch screen phones. Since my carrier offers only 3 phones of that feature, yet all are either have 4″ or smaller screens, horrible battery life, and aren’t up to date on software, I decided to just sacrifice the keyboard and move to an all-touch phone. So, I’ve narrowed down to three choices:———————–1. Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD
Why This Phone:
• 4G LTE capability• 3300 mAh battery (big-ass battery mean long-ass battery life. They say even after heavy use of apps, streaming music and video, can still last up to 13 hours on a single charge)• 4.7 inch multi-touch screen• 16 GB internal memory with expandable MicroSD• 8 MP camera and 1080p video recording• Android Jellybean OS 4.1—————————–2. HTC Droid DNA
Why This Phone:
• 4G LTE capability• 5 inch multi-touch screen• 16 GB internal memory (but no expandable MicroSD) *sad face*• 8 MP camera and 1080p video recording (both cameras)• Android Jellybean OS 4.1 (upgradable to 4.2)——————————–3. HTC One
Why This Phone:• 4G LTE capability• 4.7 inch multi-touch screen• Booming dual front speakers• 32/64 GB internal memory (but no expandable MicroSD) *sad face*• 4 MP camera (meh) and 1080p video recording (both cameras)• Android Jellybean OS 4.1 (upgradable to 4.2)I found out that this phone will now be carried on my carrier, but not until later this summer (hopefully before my contract is up).————————————-So, what I ask of you, my Xanga family, do any of you own these phones? What is your experience with them? Do you recommend any of these phones? I only ever got to play with the Droid DNA and it felt comfortable and suitable for my kind of usage (although it is pretty massive at more than 5 inches). I’ve got a HTC one and I loves it
though actually mine is the one before that one so that HTC one is probably even better lol
@isitreal_no - So the DNA? Hahaha. I like the phone, and so I’m seeing if they discontinue the DNA before they start shopping the one. But then that also means they’ll sell the DNA for cheap!
Damn, you look into it! Understandable you want something that will fit what’s good and comfortable for you. I have no idea about those phones. I’m one of the iPhone users you talked about. I believe I told you a few months ago; I found there was an attachable pull out keyboard to use with my iPhone. If you really would rather a keyboard, you should google it. Who knows… People were just as surprised as I was with the iPhone keyboard.
@laytexduckie - lol I think I have the HTC One SV. DNA doesn’t ring a bell. I’m shit with stuff like that. Unless it’s written on my phone I have no idea what I bought haha it says HTC 4G LTE on the back. That’s all I got haha
Decisions, decisions, decisions! The phones are a beauty and sooo sleek and all that functions. What have you decided on?! 32/64GB is still alot even without the expendable SD.. Well, you sold me at huge ass battery life with the Droid Razr! haha Good Luck! x
They sound nice Ben. I have the Galaxy Note (Ver. 1) hehe I like the stylus pen that comes with it and the screen is huge. GF tells me that thing looks like you are listening to a CD player. LOL She tells me this but she has one as well.
The HTC One is right now neck and neck with my choice: Galaxy S4.

13 MP, 1080p screen, quad core processor and 2 GB RAM, and Jelly Bean 4.2, 4G and a microSD card; on this thing you can simultaneously watch a video and continue to browse the Internet or Facebook or whatever. Of course, battery life could be better but there are expansion batteries available. Read the review and see if you like it. Of course the phone gets warm easily and there are a few bugs; right now on mine I’m experiencing some apps not loading data (Amazon, Facebook) and I have to resend requests. Overall though, I love it.
Stephen has the DNA and absolutely loves it! It’s a good phone and he doesn’t have any issues with it. Also, I hate the whole no keyboard thing, but you should try out the swipe feature on the keyboard. It makes things so much easier for typing.
@jennylovve – Well, I tend to be slightly OCD when choosing a new phone. Hahah. I want to make sure I get the most out of my money, so I like to research things before I buy them. As for the keyboard iPhone case, that was something I was considering a while ago. But, because it has to sync with Bluetooth AND requires its own charger, it’s going to drain the iPhone battery that much faster. And a keyboard isn’t that great when there’s no power running it. Although, I’m glad you thought of that.
@isitreal_no – Oooooooh, I see. Hahah. I know that supply varies from continent to continent. It’s alright, dear. Haha. I just tend to geek out at electronics and see what each have to offer. Hahah. But, you do like the phone and it runs great for you?
@mellywelly15 – I still haven’t really narrowed it down yet, sweetums. I only ever played with the DNA, so I want to see who was the other two so I can play around with them and see how I like them. The Razr has the biggest and longest battery life out of the 3, and one of the things I hated about this phone I have now was the battery life; I always had to have a charger with me so I don’t run out of juice wherever I go. But, I’m also wary about the software performance, if they lag, how easy it is to restart if something happens, and mostly typing. I don’t like Swype because it seemed too tedious to learn, so I was hoping for a big enough touch screen for a great sized keyboard. Sorry, geeking out, sweetie.
@olwd – Hahah. I remember you told me you had one. That thing is just too massive. And I don’t think I really need a phone THAT big.
Hahah. I usually like to keep my phone in my pocket, and since I don’t have or plan to have a murse (man purse), I don’t think this phone will be a good fit for me.
Although it would be awesome for games and movies…
@Coffee_Kaioken – I thought about the S4 too, but, I don’t know. For some reason, I’m really turned off by it. Maybe because of all the hype surrounding it up to its announcement, and I was underwhelmed. Although I haven’t played with it, it just seemed… meh. I also read some reviews and they say that it is better, but still not the best it can be. Plus, since it being a major hot item, chances are everyone is jacking up the price.
HAHA, “Murse”, that is hilarious, just like “Moobs”. Thankfully I think Magina isn’t in the works anytime soon due to the originality and female centricity of the actual word.
@Love_in_102 – I’ve grown a liking to my cousin’s DNA after I played with it. I mean, he walked me through the features, the performance, the settings, everything, and I even sent myself a message on it to test out the typing. And with Swype, it just seemed like another tedious thing for me to learn. I just feel odd dragging my finger to type something. I sound like an old man right now. “Back in my day, our phone were on chords!”
@olwd – Hahaha. It can also be referred to as a “paginis…” Hahahahah.
haha I’m obviously not technologically focused
it runs great for me !
OMG, that almost sounds like one of my fav restaurants, Panera.
@isitreal_no – I’ll look into it further then!
And at least you’re not Amish.
hahaha.
@olwd – Bahahahaha. Almost sound like paninis too. Hahahahah.
Yes, that is what I was thinking of too. I know I’ve heard of it before.
@laytexduckie - I will have to give you a tutorial via Skype to Swype!
@mellywelly15 – Swyping while Skyping. Hah!
Hahah. We’ll see. I’ll still have to choose a phone first, love. Hahaha.
@laytexduckie - So Australian! This is what i miss about being in straya, people calling me love, and random people greeting me G’day Love! Ahhh I miss Perth and I’m sure you’ll get an awesome phone to brag about..haha
@mellywelly15 – Well, I called people “love” for a while. Hahah. And my Australian accent is terrible. I’ll show it to you when we Skype. Hahah.
@laytexduckie – haha! You are a riot! I know it’s weird, but it’s better than having to constantly hit the wrong letters.
Just got the new LG optimus. Battery lasts about 2 days before needing a charge. I use it for basic stuff like texting, browsing, a call or two, and finding dates on craiglist. Has a lovely screen, too.
